Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year everyone! :-) Hope you all were able to celebrate with friends or family. This is my third Chinese New Year away from home and this year we decided to do hot pot with a group a friends. For my nails I decided to do a look inspired by Fan Bing Bing’s outfit in The Empress of China. I haven’t seen the series yet, but the outfits look stunning! I’ve heard mixed reviews of the series so I’m a little hesitant to commit to watching it.

I also love the song that Jane Zhang sang for The Empress of China.

Julep Starbucks Holiday Halfmoons

Julep generously sent us each some nail polish and their Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum which I already use regularly. I love using it in combination with lotion and Burt’s Bees Cuticle Butter to keep my cuticles in shape.

This look is inspired by the Starbucks holiday cup. I love Starbucks’ packaging designs as well as their interior design (I’m a sucker for the reclaimed industrial aesthetic for interiors). This year features lots of bursts with subtle color contrasts. So, a lot of hot pink and dark red on bright red and lots of sparkly gold. I’ve taken their holiday cup design (I’m holding the grande cup) and adapted it to a half-moon look on my nails.

Also, have I mentioned how much I love Julep January (gorgeous bright red cream and Julep Sienna (shimmery gold)? Probably one too many times, but I absolutely love those two polishes.

Recently Starbucks opened a new shop in the Capitol Hill neighborhood here in Seattle, WA that combines the roastery and the coffee shop aspect.

Julep Christmas Hello Kitty

Hi guys, Rathy and I are taking over Julep’s instagram account!

This look features Hello Kitty in various Christmas outfits! I wanted to paint Christmas themed nail art without it being too generic like Christmas trees, or snowflakes, etc. In general, I like to add a little something special and put an extra spin on holiday themed nails. They are quite fun for me. Of course, I do enjoy the simple looks as well, but I find painting small details rather therapeutic. Honestly I struggle a bit with taping as I get impatient waiting for my layers to dry. ;)

That said, yes, this is entirely hand painted! I’ve had several people at work asking me if these were stickers, but nope. I painted every stroke, that’s why the lines are so imperfect. @_@ I do think it’s a huge improvement already from last year, but there’s always more room for growth!

On my ring finger, I’m using Julep January. This is one of my all time favorite reds. It’s a lovely true red, and the formula is excellent. I would have to say this is a must have for any nail polish addict’s collection. It is beautiful on its own and super easy to work with in nail art as well. Often times I struggle with polishes getting to thick or clumpy as I’m layering them, but Julep January is just magic. *_* I use it in so many looks.
