I wanted to make sure that I was able to do my Breast Cancer Awareness nails for October. It’s actually quite important to me.
A few years back during my routine checkup, my doctor discovered something she wasn’t sure of. Though it was not an immediate concern, they did suggest that I do a mammogram and ultrasound to figure out what it was due to my age. Their observation lead to something called a fibroadenoma, which is a noncancerous breast tumor. I was then scheduled for a biopsy to be certain that it was benign. At that point, I wasn’t sure what to think. It seemed a bit surreal as I was going to these appointments and speaking with the doctors at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. I was nervous about the whole situation, but I knew in my heart that whatever happens, I would get through it. My results finally came in after my biopsy tests, and they confirmed that it was a benign fibroadenoma that did not require any surgical removal. I was extremely relieved, but much more aware of my health. I have one body, one mind, one life, and one heart that I need to take care of. So I live as happy as I can and be grateful for everything.
I hope everyone takes a little bit of time to do their own monthly exams. It’s something that should not be waved aside, because it can happen to anyone. And I’m so thankful for the doctors who helped me at the UW Medical Center and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. They were very informative, and they took any fears away while I was under their care.
One of my favorite pink polishes to wear is Essie’s I Am Strong from their Breast Cancer Awareness collection. It’s such a perfect medium pink for any day of the year, not just in October. I topped off my accent nail with a glitter top coat called Love Your Life. How perfect is that!
